Organic Curry Chicken For Under $4.00/Person

Source: http://ift.tt/hFWySe - Saturday, January 30, 2016
Tuesday night we dined with friends, they hosted and we brought the food. I don't travel with food often, but I now realize it's the perfect arrangement for two busy families. I cook and deliver the food, while my friends graciously allow their home to be trampled by a hoard of kids running amok - sounds fair to me. This dish from David Tanis is absolutely delicious. Although aromatic and full of flavor, these spices marry so well, even the pickiest of eaters will enjoy this mellow curry. For those who like heat, increase the cayenne or add a fresh hot pepper or two while heating your chicken broth. This dish serves about 6 people and costs around $3.75 per person. Serve with rice and you have a meal you can feed the entire family. We used all organic ingredients minus some of the spices and were happy to find such a rich and luscious dish at such a low cost. Enjoy! Title : Organic Curry Chicken for Under $4.00/person Author : David Tanis Prep time : 30 mins Cook time : 1 hr Total time : 1 hr 30 mins Serves : 6 Notes : I took some liberty here and used what I could find in our pantry. Some of my spices were dry, and I used peanuts instead of cashews. I also skipped the parsnips and added some peas instead. Finding organic ginger, garlic or spices may be tough in some places, substitute with conventional products or order online. It took me about 45 minutes to make this dish, however I did read comments on the NY Times page, where

World Shrugs as New Photos of Dead Children Highlight Horror of Migrant Crisis

Source: www.slate.com - Saturday, January 30, 2016
Almost 40 people drowned, and 75 were rescued, when a boat taking migrants to Greece capsized after hitting rocks. Among the dead were at least 10 children and the photographs of their lifeless bodies on the rocky beach once again served as a reminder about the ever-rising death toll of the tragedy that has been engulfing Europe. The photos recalled that of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi, whose death that was captured on film brought global attention to the crisis. Global attention, however, seems to be elsewhere now. “The heartbreaking images Saturday met a muted response,” notes the Associated Press , “perhaps a sign that many have grown weary of the unending reports about the suffering of migrants even though the number of people dying at sea is rising.” Although the world does not seem to be as focused on the issue, the number of deaths keep on increasing. The International Organization for Migration said that until Friday, 218 people had drowned this month in the Aegean Sea as they tried to reach Greek islands . A Human Rights Watch official said that January has been the "deadliest month so far” for the perilous journey between Greece and Turkey. While deaths increase though, sympathy for the migrants seems to be decreasing. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, once seen as a hero in the crisis for opening her country’s borders to refugees, is under rising pressure to stop the constant flow of people. On Saturday, she told party co

Alex Mack: Latest News, Rumors and Speculation on Brown Center's Future

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Saturday, January 30, 2016
Three-time Pro Bowl center  Alex Mack has spent his entire seven-year NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, but 2015 could be his last season with the team. Continue for updates. A Return to Cleveland Up in the Air for Mack  Saturday, Jan. 30 After the Browns matched an offer sheet from the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014, Mack has the right to opt out of his contract, which would pay him $8 million in 2016. The 30-year-old offensive lineman, who is in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, is still undecided on his future, according to Conor Orr of NFL.com (h/t  Steve Doerschuk  of the  Canton Repository , via  Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk). “It was good to leave the season, take some time off and  let that all shake out ,” Mack said Thursday. “Really happy [the Browns] got everything handled early and they found their guy. They’re getting a staff together quickly. It’s going in the right direction. I think they’ve got good things going in the right places.” Former Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson was hired for the same job in Cleveland, but there's a lot of work to do for a franchise that's finished with a losing record the past eight seasons. Florio pointed out that Mack can void the final year and test the market, possibly forcing Cleveland to offer more than $8 million. He can expect to receive offers higher than that from other teams, Florio noted, which will make it hard for Cleveland to re-sign him. As Mack enters the latter par ...

McCarthy no longer Australia’s best-kept secret

The former national junior-level triathlete, who turned to cycling at age 17, has spent the majority of his three previous seasons riding for a version of the Tinkoff team and flying under the radar — that was until his coming-out party at the Santos Tour Down Under in Adelaide in January. At the TDU, McCarthy showed the same dogged tenacity that rode him onto the final podium on the last stage of the Tour of Turkey last year, by capturing his first professional win and battling fellow Aussie and eventual four-time race winner Simon Gerrans (Orica-GreenEdge) for stage wins, valuable intermediate sprint time bonuses and the ochre leader’s jersey for the majority of the six-day WorldTour opener. McCarthy shined during a week where the Australians dominated by claiming every stage. He joined well-known countrymen Gerrans, Richie Porte (BMC Racing), and Caleb Ewan (Orica-GreenEdge) in the national spotlight. “Could I have been happy with just the win on stage 2?” questioned McCarthy, who ultimately finished fourth on general classification just outside the final podium behind Gerrans, Porte, and Colombian Sergio Henao (Team Sky). “Perhaps, but my team was w ...

33 Refugees Drown While Germany's Asylum Seekers Face Attacks

Source: en.radiovaticana.va - Saturday, January 30, 2016
(Vatican Radio) Turkey's state-run media say at least 33 people, including five children, have drowned in the Aegean Sea after their Greece-bound boat capsized off the Turkish coast, while far away in Germany refugees struggled in the aftermath of far-right attacks against them. Coast guards reportedly rescued 75 others from the sea Saturday near the resort of Ayvacik en route to the Greek island of Lesbos. Listen to the report by correspondent Stefan Bos: They were the latest victims this month when officials say more than 200 people already drowned trying to cross by sea from Turkey to Greece. From there tens of thousands of migrants fleeing war and poverty have already tried to reach Western nations such as Germany this year through the notorious Balkans route despite a harsh winter. But a live hand grenade thrown at a migrant hostel in south-west Germany has underscored growing resentment towards refugees in the country. Officials said the grenade was found overnight near buildings housing 170 refugees in the German town of Villingen-Schwenningen. Its pin had been pulled out but the explosives failed to detonate. Germany's Justice Minister Heiko Maas called it a new level of "hate and violence" in the country. “The degree of violence against refugee homes is frightening, if now hand grenades are being thrown into buildings in the middle of Germany.” The minister added: “This has to be investigated, the perpetrators must be se

New Housing Project Will Revitalize Riot-Torn Community

Source: baltimore.cbslocal.com - Saturday, January 30, 2016
BALTIMORE (WJZ) –A new housing project will revitalize a community at the epicenter of the April’s riots and help to build a brighter future for the City of Baltimore. Tracey Leong explains. This is the second and final phase of the affordable housing complex, providing more than 150 homes to families in need. The Penn-North community is on the road to recovery. A $16 million apartment complex opening up is a vital part of that process. Last April, this neighborhood was rocked by violence. Chaos unfolded following the death of Freddie Gray. “This is a great day for our community. We’re always excited to see positive changes coming to our neighborhood,” said Annie Hall, Penn-North Community Association. Developed by the Woda Group, this is just one of many projects that will help transform Baltimore. “We are proud to be a part of this rebirth and our work is not done,” said Woda Group vice president Kevin Bell. The new housing complex is just a block up from where the new CVS is being built. It was burned down during April’s unrest. This final phase adds 61 units to the existing 91 that went up in 2011, giving 152 families an affordable housing option on the 2600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. “I continue to support what Woda does and a way for people to stay in Baltimore, people to move to Baltimore so we can have the city that we know we are destined to have,” said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. Citizen's Tip Leads To Capture Of Escaped California Inmates

Source: http://ift.tt/hFWySe - Saturday, January 30, 2016
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A tip from an observant woman led San Francisco police to catch two escaped inmates who had been on the run for more than a week, Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens said. San Francisco police were responding about 8:50 a.m. Saturday to an unrelated call when a woman said she saw a parked white van that looked like the one authorities said the fugitives had stolen, Hutchens said during a news conference. As officers approached the van, 37-year-old Hossein Nayeri started running. He was caught after a short chase. Officers then went back to the van and found 20-year-old Jonathan Tieu hiding, the sheriff said. Police found ammunition but no gun in the van. Authorities had been hunting for Tieu, Nayeri and a third inmate, 43-year-old Bac Duong, in Southern California since they pulled off a brazen jail escape Jan. 22. On Friday, Duong walked into an auto repair shop and said he wanted to surrender. He told investigators he had last seen the other two inmates Thursday afternoon in San Jose, shifting the manhunt 400 miles to the north. The three men had all been jailed and awaiting trial on charges in separate violent crimes. They were held in a dormitory with about 65 other men in the jail about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles. The men escaped in the early morning hours after cutting a hole in a metal grate then crawling through plumbing tunnels and onto the roof of a four-story jail building. They pushed

Kanye West Promises He Won’t Speak About Other People’s Kids Again

Source: dlisted.com - Saturday, January 30, 2016
Some people are just naturally remorseful. They carry this sense of personal accountability, constantly apologizing for some behavior or comment. It’s safe to say Kanye West —or Yeezus if you’re sacrilegious—isn’t one of those people. And nothing screams, “I need a prayer circle as soon as possible” like bringing a toddler into an already bizarre feud that may or may not be fueled by your unwavering lust for your ex and her fingers . A few days ago Yeezus claimed in a Twitter fight that he “ owns ” Amber Rose’s 2-year-old son with Wiz Khalifa and that neither “ wouldn’t have a child if it wasn’t for me.” Yeah, it was pretty awful but not awful enough to garner an apology out of Yeezus. Beyonce’s most dedicated super fan went on Twitter and pretty much told Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose, “ I’m sorry” without ever mentioning the words “ I’m sorry .” God’s dream… Never speak on kids again… all love … all blessings… — KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 30, 2016 Call it the tweet representation of the Kanye shrug. You know who else is unapologetic? The scallywag that is Amber Rose who started her Friday night by celebrating her total annihilation of Yeezus by wearing a curve-hugging black-and-white mini dress to Lure nightclub. All-time Super Bowl team is solid gold

In recognition of the golden anniversary of its championship game, the NFL asked those of us on the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee to vote for what it billed as the Super Bowl 50 Golden Team. The results follow, including my votes and the cases I made for each selection: Offense Quarterback: Joe Montana. My vote: Montana. My case: He led the San Francisco 49ers to victories in all four Super Bowls in which he played and was selected the MVP of three of them. In those four games, Montana completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,142 yards and 11 touchdowns, without throwing an interception. Younger fans especially those with a rooting interest in the Patriots might be inclined to go with Tom Brady, who legitimately challenges Montana for greatest quarterback the game has ever seen. But in terms of pure Super Bowl greatness, Montana was the biggest no-brainer of them all. Running backs: Franco Harris and Emmitt Smith. My votes: Smith and Larry Csonka. My cases: Along with being the NFL s all-time leading rusher, Smith also left a huge mark on the Super Bowl with a record five rushing touchdowns combined in three Dallas Cowboys victories. He was MVP of the win against the Buffalo Bills in XXVIII with 30 carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Carrollton to hire Colquitt County offensive coordinator as head coach

Source: highschoolsports.blog.ajc.com --- Saturday, January 30, 2016
Carrollton will hire Colquitt County offensive coordinator Sean Calhoun as its Football coach pending school-board approval, the Times-Georgian has reported. Calhoun worked at Colquitt County the past two seasons, during which the Packers were 30-0 and set state-records in the highest classification for points in a season both years. Calhoun was quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator the first season before taking on a more prominent role. Calhoun was an assistant at Collins Hill from 2010 to 2013, finishing as offensive coordinator. He worked closely with former Collins Hill quarterback Tyler Heinicke, who passed for a Gwinnett County-record 4,218 yards and 44 touchdowns as a senior before setting NCAA records at Old Dominion. Calhoun is a Berkmar graduate who was part of two national championships at Valdosta State as player and graduate assistant coach. In high school, he is the last quarterback to lead Berkmar to a victory over Parkview (1999). Carrollton was 6-6 last season under Ed Dudley, who retired. The school has employed only five head coaches since Charlie Grisham started in 1958. Calhoun’s approval as head coach is expected to come in early February.   ...

Get Your Voice Heard Despite Gender Bias

"I’m not sure if it’s me or it’s them!”, sighed a coaching client (let’s call her Pat). She was exasperated. She had just come from a meeting where she had tried to express her point of view repeatedly and had not been heard. This doesn’t mean no one heard her. They heard her, but just glossed over what she said. Her voice and influence did not get traction with a group of mostly men who were senior to her.

Senior Bowl 2016 final score: South team dominates in 27-16 win

Source: www.sbnation.com --- Saturday, January 30, 2016
The South team triumphed in Saturday's Senior Bowl showcase, putting on some impressive tape for NFL scouts. The South team put on a clinic in the 2016 Senior Bowl, dispatching the North team, 27-16, in a game that served as the climax to a week of practices. Dak Prescott led the South team with one touchdown and 61 yards on 7-of-10 passing. Carson Wentz had big momentum after a strong practice week, but he was mostly a footnote in this game, completing 6 of 10 passes for 50 yards. South had a productive first quarter, though struggles by both Jake Coker and Carson Wentz limited productivity on the opening drives. The defenses looked a step above the offenses throughout, but eventually, Aaron Green broke a 25-yard touchdown run to put the South squad up by a touchdown. Following the touchdown, the North went for a fourth-and-three from their own territory, and Wentz's pass to Braxton Miller fell incomplete later. South then lost 3 yards on their ensuing drive, but they were already in field goal range and Ross Martin kicked one in from 48 yards out to make it a 10-0 game. The North finally got on the board late in the second quarter after a 12-play, 55-yard drive led by Kevin Hogan at quarterback. Hogan hit Nick Vannett for a 26-yard pass to get into South territory, and after a successful fourth-down conversion just outside of the red zone, the North stalled out at the South 18-yard line. Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked a 36-field goal ...

Johnny Manziel Involved In “Altercation” With His Girlfriend

Source: houston.cbslocal.com - Saturday, January 30, 2016
Fort worth (CBS HOUSTON) – Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was questioned by Fort Worth police early Saturday morning about an altercation with his girlfriend. No arrests were made. The Fort Worth Police issued a statement Saturday afternoon about the situation: “At approximately 2 a.m. on January 30, 2016, patrol officers were dispatched to 2101 Park Hill Drive (The Berkeley Apartments) in reference to a report of a possible assault. Upon arrival, officers did not locate the caller, but did make contact with a 23 year old female who stated that she was involved in a disturbance with her ex-boyfriend (23 year old male suspect) earlier in the evening in Dallas. The preliminary investigation determined that a possible assault had occurred in that jurisdiction or multiple jurisdictions. The complainant was uncooperative with officers on scene, and they were unable to locate a crime scene within the Fort Worth jurisdiction, however, our officers prepared a report nonetheless, and that information was forwarded to detectives for further investigation. The Dallas Police Department was notified of a possible disturbance, so any questions regarding their jurisdiction should be submitted to DPD. The complainant also advised our officers of concerns that she had regarding the well-being of her ex-boyfriend. In an effort to follow-up on this, Fort Worth officers attempted to locate him, by calling cell phone numbers associated w

Searching for What Drives Jack Eichel, Hockey's New All-American Hero

Source: bleacherreport.com - Friday, January 29, 2016
NORTH CHELMSFORD, Mass. —  The search for the real Jack Eichel has to begin in this community of 9,300 about 30 miles northwest of Boston. But the breadcrumbs are few. What is it, exactly, that made Eichel into a person who, as his friend Dan Ferri says, was “obsessed” with being an NHL player? There are no pushy stage parents to be found here. Bob and Anne Eichel, by all accounts, never pressured their son into playing hockey. If they were only interested in their son’s financial success, they haven’t done a good job of showing it since Eichel was selected second overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2015 NHL draft. Both continue to work, Bob as a foreman for a plumbing company and Anne as a registered nurse. Money may not have been plentiful, but there was plenty enough for a comfortable middle-class upbringing. There are no tales of a kid being bullied in school, wanting thereafter to prove everyone wrong. Ferri said Eichel “got along with just about everybody.” There was no peer from youth hockey he constantly compared himself to. According to Ferri, Eichel “was a lot better than everyone right from the start.” No dramatic backstory can be found to explain why a kid felt the need to work out as often as four times a day, felt guilty on holidays for not being able to get into the gym and regularly drove hours out of his way to find a rink or weight room that might still be open. Those extra hours of dedication had their payoff

Wendy’s Keeping Consumers Informed

Source: animal.agwired.com - Friday, January 29, 2016
Wendy’s has set up a giant truck at the 2016 Cattle Industry Convention , and cattlemen and women have been lining up as the fast food chain continues giving away burgers and frosties to attendees. “At the heart of the Wendy’s brand, and what’s been core to brand in day one when Dave Thomas started the company in 1969, is fresh beef,” said Liliana Esposito, Wendy’s Chief Communications Officer, in an interview during the expo. “We’re just so grateful to America’s farmers and ranchers for everything they do to help us bring a great product to our customers. We wanted to show them this week that we all have the same interest, which is high quality beef from US farmers and ranchers.” As the American consumer base becomes increasingly disconnected from agriculture and livestock production, Wendy’s has recognized their opportunity to provide consumers with valuable information about food production, and to play a major role in bridging the gap between consumers and livestock producers. “One of the things that we’re so proud of is that since 1969, we’ve serviced only fresh, never frozen beef from fed cattle in North America,” said Esposito. “So that’s something that we’re going to be more vocal about in telling our story and talking about the quality beef that they serve. We think consumers will love it, and we want them to be proud of what they’re eating, because we’re certainly proud to serve it.” Listen to Jamie’s full interview wit

Amazon, Microsoft Point to Cloud Payoff for WDC, Equinix, Say Needham, SunTrust

Source: blogs.barrons.com --- Friday, January 29, 2016
Following robust cloud computing revenue growth from Amazon.com ( AMZN ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ) in the December quarter, reported by both yesterday afternoon, some cloud pundits on the Street have been talking up the positive implications for cloud technology suppliers such as Western Digital ( WDC ) and Rackspace Hosting ( RAX ). Needham & Co .'s Richard Kugele , who follows shares of Western, writes that Amazon's Amazon Web Services "continues to impress with 69% y/y growth in 4Q15 and 28% operating margins." The innovation engine is chugging just as fast as the revenue with 722 new features added during 2015, up 40% y/y. We believe that clouds aiming to compete with the breadth and scale of AWS need to not only provide storage and compute by the glass but also the enterprise grade services that AWS wraps around its vast infrastructure. It is this combination that enabled AWS to offer its 51st price reduction in January (which clearly have not been negatively impacting profitability). His take: Amazon data center expansion bodes well for component suppliers (such as WDC). Although no longer directly competitive to AMZN (and more recently a "frenemy") this type of performance from AWS further distances itself from the likes of RAX and others in the managed hosting space." ...

Taqueria Feliz Now Open in Horsham

Source: www.phillymag.com --- Friday, January 29, 2016
Photo by Courtney Apple Chef Tim Spinner and business partner Brian Sirhal have brought Mexican to the ‘burbs with the opening of their fourth contemporary Mexican restaurant, Taqueria Feliz . The restaurant took the place of Pizzeria Felici in Horsham, the Neopolitan-style pizzeria they nixed after deciding to stick with Mexican. The new restaurant has a much larger kitchen than the original Taqueria Feliz in Manayunk, so the menu is more extensive. The wood-fired oven is perfect for making their spins of classic taqueria dishes like crab and lentil enchiladas, tempura battered fish tacos, tlayudas (Mexican-style pizza) and their signature Feliz carnitas tacos. For the kids, there’s also a “Little Amigos Menu.” Because this is the ‘burbs, after all. Feliz has a long list of appetizers including their homemade quacamole and a number of other creative guacs like chicharone guacamole with crispy chicken skins, charred scallions, and chili honey glaze. Behind the bar are over fifty different tequilas to choose from (as if figuring out what margarita to get isn’t a challenge enough), ten beers on tap, bottled and canned beer, and you can drink these up while watching a game on one of their flat screens. Just like the other three of Spinner and Sirhal’s Feliz restaurants, the work of South Philadelphia artist Alison Dilworth is featured on the walls—her Dia De Los Muertes mural in the bar and dining room adds color to the rustic, fest ...

Melbourne : A number of schools in Australia were put under lockdown and students evacuated after "numerous threats" made to them as they opened on Thursday after the long Christmas holiday period, sparking multiple police operations. Several schools in Sydney and Melbourne were evacuated and went into lockdown after receiving bomb threats this morning. The threats came on the first day of the opening of the schools after the long Christmas break, leading to multiple police operations, media reports said. Seven schools in New South Wales (NSW) went into lockdown following threats. Local police confirmed schools in Penrith, Richmond, Mona Vale, Ambarvale, Woolooware, Ulladulla and Lake Illawarra were affected. Police said they launched operations in Victoria, after threatening phone calls were made to at least four schools. Investigations are continuing, and police are liaising with the Department of Education," a police statement read. Barista Refuses to Serve Coffee to a Pregnant Woman ... for Reals

Source: thestir.cafemom.com --- Friday, January 29, 2016
Post by Jacqueline Burt Cote. We've heard plenty of stories about pregnant women being denied alcohol in restaurants and bars, but coffee? Unfortunately, it's true: An expectant mom in Australia wrote this week about a barista who refused to serve her caffeine because of her visible bump -- yes, caffeine! Alexandra Smith, education editor for the Syndey Morning Herald, is 27 weeks pregnant with her third baby -- so, as she writes, unsolicited comments from strangers are nothing new. "I have heard it all from family, friends and plenty of strangers. As a mother-to-be, my body and looks have become fair game," she says. But unwanted advice and cracks about the size of your ankles are one thing -- when strangers feel the need to interfere with your personal choices, that's another entirely. Which is exactly what happened when Smith tried to order a coffee and the barista gave her this incredibly condescending (not to mention medically uninformed) response: "No. No caffeine for you." Smith thought she heard the barista wrong at first. As she points out, "This was a coffee I was a ordering, not a martini." But nope. The barista -- as in, barista, not obstetrician -- decided that it was his duty to police the (completely harmless) actions of a complete stranger. Why? I can only assume that he saw an episode of a sitcom once where a pregnant character went to comically ridiculous lengths to avoid coffee, or he saw a post on his Facebook ...

Microsoft Nears High On Cloud-Fueled Q2 EPS, Sales Beat

Microsoft ( MSFT ) stock leaped on Friday as investors reacted positively to the software company’s fiscal-second-quarter earnings report out late Thursday. The Redmond, Wash.-based company easily beat Wall Street’s targets for the December quarter , thanks to its rapidly growing cloud computing business. Microsoft earned 78 cents a share on sales of $25.69 billion on a non-GAAP basis in its fiscal Q2. Earnings per share rose 11% year over year, while sales slipped 1.7%. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected 71 cents a share on sales of $25.26 billion. Excluding foreign-exchange impacts, Microsoft’s earnings per share would have been up 23% and its sales up 3%. Microsoft is shifting its business from desktop software to Internet cloud computing infrastructure and applications. The transition should make Microsoft less reliant on PC buying cycles. Microsoft stock jumped 5.8% to close at 55.09 on the stock market today , not far from an all-time high of 56.85 on Dec. 29. Government Finds 'Top Secret' Information In Hillary Clinton's Emails

Source: http://ift.tt/hFWySe - Friday, January 29, 2016
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is confirming for the first time that Hillary Clinton's unsecured home server contained some closely guarded secrets, including material requiring one of the highest levels of classification. The revelation comes just three days before the Iowa presidential nominating caucuses in which Clinton is a candidate. The State Department will release more emails from Clinton's time as secretary of state later Friday. But The Associated Press has learned that 7 email chains are being withheld in full for containing "top secret" material. Department officials wouldn't describe the substance of the emails, or say if Clinton had sent any herself. Spokesman John Kirby tells the AP that no judgment on past classification was made. But the department is looking into that, too. Also on HuffPost:     -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. Timothy Johnson: At GOP Debate, Fox News Failed To Ask The Gun Policy Questions Americans Wanted To Hear

Source: mediamatters.org - Friday, January 29, 2016
Leading up to last night's mainstage GOP debate, Fox News noted that "gun control" was "the most searched issue last month" and that Americans "want to hear about gun control." But during the debate, the moderators failed to ask any questions about gun policy. Fox News and Google sponsored a January 28 Republican primary debate featuring Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). According to a Washington Post transcript , the issue of gun policy was only mentioned in passing when moderator Chris Wallace asked Rubio about his accusation that Christie is a flip-flopper. In failing to ask a gun policy question, Fox News moderators missed an opportunity to ask the Republican field about why they oppose background checks for all gun sales even when the measure is overwhelmingly popular with Republicans. Due to its partnership with Google, Fox News was aware that Americans wanted to hear a question about gun policy. In a January 28 segment on Fox News program Happening Now about "what issues are most important" to voters, Fox News anchor Shannon Bream noted that according to Google Trends data, people "want to hear about gun control." During Fox's January 28 undercard debate for candidates that failed to qualify for the main debate, moderator Martha MacCallum noted "according to Google, gun control is the most searched issue las

NFL Mock Draft 2016: Updated Order and Predictions for 1st-Round Prospects

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Thursday, January 28, 2016
The first major stop on the path to the 2016 NFL draft is the Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, where college football's most experienced players currently lay it all on the line for scouts and NFL teams.   With just the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers still alive, the majority of the league's attention focuses on the event, which will eventually give way to the scouting combine and other major landmarks in the coming months. Long story short, it's the perfect time for fans of the eliminated franchises to catch up on the draft process to also begin the long journey. The best way to do so is through a mock draft outlining team need and prospect value, so let's do so below.   2016 NFL Mock Draft Note: New England Patriots forfeited their first-round pick.   Breaking Down Notable Picks  21. Washington: Laquon Treadwell , WR, Ole Miss Laquon Treadwell out of Ole Miss might be the draft's top wide receiver, but that's a "might," not a sure thing. Wideout is one of the more confusing parts of the puzzle heading to the draft because Treadwell comes with both good and bad points around his stock. The good, of course, is the 6'2", 210-pound frame and the 82 catches for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns. Among other traits, Treadwell looks like an incredible possession receiver who can outpoint defensive backs, as CBSSports .com's Dane Brugler helps to detail: Over this three years as a starter, Treadwell lined up inside and out ...

The 64-year-old best known as the lead man of The Police will perform a compilation of his hits during the All-Star Game on February 14 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. NBA All-Star halftime acts often feature special guests as well, and there should be plenty of artists in Toronto for All-Star Weekend, including former teen actor Drake, who is a big NBA fan and an ambassador for the Raptors . The NBA also announced that Ne-Yo and Nelly Furtado will perform the American and Canadian national anthems, respectively. Furtado, who is wonderful, hasn't released an album in four years but once name-dropped countryman Steve Nash in a pop song. Ne-Yo is every American rapper's favorite male hook singer and enjoys wearing hats. The league also revealed that Cirque du Soleil will perform during the player introductions on All-Star Sunday, which promises to be fantastically weird. It’s okay, though, we’re going to do the heavy lifting for you each morning and find the things you need to see from within the SB Nation Baseball network, as well as from elsewhere. Please hold your applause until the end, or at least until after you subscribe to the newsletter . * * * It's January 28, but thanks to the qualifying offer, there are still free agents available who could help a team . And not like, help off the bench, or fill out the back-end of a rotation: there are legitimate starting players who could not only fill a hole but also produce at above-average levels still out there looking for work. Teams aren't keen on giving them deals, though, because then they'll have to forfeit a first-round pick. So, Dexter Fowler, Howie Kendrick, Yovani Gallardo, and Ian Desmond are all just sitting and waiting for someone to eventually crack, hoping that it doesn't take until the season is already two months over for it to happen. They’re both former college Baseball players, and for the past five years, their blog has worked to “present original content from a unique viewpoint, offering insights into how the game is played and how it could be played better.” Max and Sean wrote that they’ve addressed issues ranging from the role of politics in sports to the best way to grip a curveball. You can follower them at @blogoffthebench on Twitter and at offthebenchbaseball.com. For their post, Max and Sean take a look at the Yankees’ dominant late-inning bullpen trio in search of the best way to utilize such a set of relievers. — The Yankees Have Baseball’s Best Bullpen, Now How Do They Use It? Before I really sink my teeth into the meat of this New York Yankees bullpen sandwich, I have to note that Aroldis Chapman is currently under investigation for a domestic violence incident. For the purposes of this post, I will largely be ignoring any potential disciplinary action against Chapman as it is impossible to predict at this point. Commissioner Manfred has never levied a domestic violence suspension, so there is no precedent for how many games a player might be suspended in a situation like this. Wingnuts Tab Newman Baseball Architect as Hitting Coach

WICHITA, KS (January 12, 2016) Prior to 1978 the athletic department at nearby Newman University did not include Baseball. Beginning that year, and for the next 23 seasons, Paul Sanagorski started and developed the program before becoming a coach in Minor League Baseball. On Tuesday the Wichita Wingnuts announced that Sanagorski will become the third hitting coach in team history. The 67-year old Sanagorski made an immediate and long-lasting impact on college Baseball in the city of Wichita. Six seasons after starting the Newman University Baseball program, the coach guided the squad to its only ever appearance in the NAIA World Series where they placed fourth. He closed his career in the collegiate ranks with a 766-291 record and was named as a coach of the year on eight occasions. The successful run at Newman earned him an opportunity to apply the trade in the professional ranks. In 2000 he was hired by the Florida Marlins as a Minor League hitting coach and went on to spend a total of 10 seasons within the organizations of the Marlins and Washington Nationals. Sanagorski has coached at every level of the Minor League Baseball pyramid from rookie ball to Triple-A.
