Paris Games Week Is All About ESports, VR And Influencers

Source: www.alistdaily.com --- Friday, October 28, 2016
Paris Games Week is upon us, and publishers are taking this opportunity to get games into the hands of holiday shoppers—especially since 307,000 visitors attended the expo last year. As with GamesCom 2016 , large publishers like Sony and Microsoft have abandoned the press conference in favor of hands-on fan events with the hope of enticing influencers. Fans are encouraged to interact with the developers themselves, a privilege usually reserved for journalists at events like E3 . Bethesda, for example, is hosting a book signing by Sébastien Mitton, artistic director for Dishonored 2 and Microsoft is hosting a Gears of War 4 cosplay competition. YouTube Gaming also has a large presence at the show, hosting interviews and talks with gaming influencers in a casual, lounge-like setting. Grosse ambiance chez @YouTubeGaming #pgw http://pic.twitter.com/6S3yorpseX — Fannysparty 1000110 (@fannysparty) October 28, 2016 ESports is a major focus at Paris Games Week with the Electronic Sports World Cup . The global competition features the best players across Just Dance 17 , CS: GO, Clash Royale and FIFA 17. Sony is hosting 40 playable PS4 and PSVR games over 300 terminals and in a theater at the PlayStation booth. This is great news for those who missed out on the sold-out PSVR launch, as they can try the units for themselves and demo games like Batman: Arkham VR and Rise of the Tomb Raider . The San Diego Chargers Will Make the Playoffs

Source: http://ift.tt/zGntP5 --- Wednesday, October 26, 2016
The San Diego Chargers are currently on an impressive two game winning streak. These past couple of weeks have given both fans and players hope for a post season birth. The NFL season is long and difficult to understand. Three weeks ago the San Diego Chargers were being left for dead. Head coach Mike McCoy was about to be fired and there were debates on whether Ken Whisenhunt or John Pagano should be the interim head coach. Now, the Chargers find themselves in the thick of the playoff race after back to back victories; one against the Denver Broncos, the reigning Super Bowl Champions, and another against the first place NFC South Atlanta Falcons. So, at 3-4, do the San Diego Chargers have a chance to make the playoffs this year? The answer to that question is yes and here is why. IMPROVED DEFENSE San Diego has invested a lot of resources, whether it was through free agency, or via the draft, in their defense. This offseason, the newly acquired Brandon Mebane stated that San Diego had as much talent on their defense, as his former team, the Seattle Seahawks did. He sure raised some eyebrows with that comment. But maybe he was onto something. Bosa, Ingram, Brown, Mebane, Hayward, and Perryman are a solid core on this defense and have done a tremendous job keeping their team in games. San Diego is currently ranked 10th in the league in stopping the run by allowing only 90 rushing yards per contest. In addition, the Chargers are tied ...

Huge Crowds Rally Against Venezuela's Deeply Unpopular President

Source: www.npr.org - Wednesday, October 26, 2016
Lilian Tintori, wife of prominent jailed opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez, waves a Venezuelan flag during a rally against the government of President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas on Wednesday. Ronaldo Schemidt /AFP/Getty Images Huge crowds of demonstrators rallied in the streets of Venezuela's capital and in cities across the country, after authorities halted a campaign to hold a recall election intended to oust the country's deeply unpopular president, Nicolas Maduro. The demonstrators were protesting "what they call a sharp turn towards authoritarianism," as reporter John Otis tells our Newscast unit. "The Maduro government has jailed opposition leaders, stripped Congress of its powers and cracked down on the press," he says. Maduro, who was elected in 2013 after the death of Hugo Chavez, is also presiding over the country's current economic implosion. The opposition was gearing up to gather signatures in order to trigger a recall election when the electoral council blocked the effort last week, citing alleged fraud, as The Two-Way has reported . "Basically, they're saying that they are not willing to give up power through constitutional means," Harold Trinkunas, a Venezuela expert at Stanford University, tells Otis . Opposition leaders point out that the members of the council are aligned with Maduro. They say "their only alternative now is to take over the streets and convince President Maduro to resign," Otis adds. Protester Lu

Microsoft launches new Surface Studio all in one desktop

Source: tech.thaivisa.com --- Wednesday, October 26, 2016
Windows 10 to bring 3-D to two-dimensional experiences NEW YORK (AP) — Microsoft wants to bring life to common computing experiences by adding a third dimension to widely used software such as Windows and Office. The new tools, part of a free “Creators Update” to Windows 10 early next year, promise to make it easy for people to create and share photos, drawings and other images in 3-D. Microsoft also announced a high-end desktop called Surface Studio. Costing about $3,000, the Studio will be targeted at creators such as architects, artists and engineers, many of whom have long used Apple’s Mac computers. The Studio’s 28-inch display is on a flexible hinge, so users can view it straight on, or tilt it to as low as 20 degrees for drafting. Wednesday’s announcements in New York come a day before Apple is expected to refresh its Mac lineup. Colorado coach Tad Boyle: Buffs are “overrated” right now as season approaches

Source: www.denverpost.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
BOULDER — With a return trip to the NCAA Tournament last season, the fourth appearance in Tad Boyle’s sixth season as head coach, the Colorado men’s Basketball team enters this season with high expectations. Advancing to the second weekend of the tournament is the logical next step for a team that has consistently hovered in the top half of one of the country’s top conferences. But Boyle, speaking at CU’s local media day Tuesday, had a clear message as it relates to that goal. His team isn’t close to that level — at least not yet. “Right now, if I had to describe our team in one word, it would be ‘overrated,’ ” Boyle said. “We’re not consistent enough to be considered an upper-tier Pac-12 team right now. That’s today. We’re a work in progress. Thank God the season does not start right now.” The season begins with a nonconference home game against Sacramento State on Nov. 11. The Buffs, who went 22-12 last season and finished fifth in the Pac-12, are once again picked to finish fifth. And given CU’s talented returning class — including George King, who was named the Pac-12’s most improved player last season — and the addition of Derrick White, a Division II All-American who could be an all-league caliber player, there’s reason to believe the Buffs could climb higher than where they are pegged. Boyle’s message to his team: none of that will happen just by showing up. “Some of our guys have the Allen Iverson approach to practice rig ...

Charles Barkley: Klay Thompson second-best player in the NBA

Source: sportsnaut.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Like many Basketball fans, Charles Barkley feels that LeBron James is the best all-around player in the world. Barkley’s choice for No. 2 is a little surprising — Klay Thompson. “I think Klay Thompson is the best all-around player in the NBA, other than LeBron James. Kawhi Leonard is third. The only reason I say Klay Thompson is that he’s a better offensive player than Kawhi Leonard. But those are the second and third best players in the world.” Once we get past the rather immense shock of Barkley saying anything remotely complimentary of the Golden State Warriors, this is actually hard to argue with. Thompson is routinely tasked with guarding the opposition’s best perimeter player. More often than not, he at least finds a way to contain those guys. Thompson does all of that while also being one of the best shooters and overall scorers in the NBA. LeBron is certainly No. 1. But with that exception, it’s hard to imagine a player doing more on the court to help his team win than Klay Thompson. ...

Report: Jonathan Kraft and Jerry Jones fight over NFL teams’ GIF usage

Source: sportsnaut.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
The NFL owners are currently meeting in Houston to discuss many things. One particular topic led to an argument so intense that New England Patriots team president Jonathan Kraft left the room after a spat with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS , the fight was about whether or not it should be acceptable for teams to use GIFs of big plays on social media. “…Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his displeasure with the mandate during this week’s owners meeting in Houston, sources said. Jones had a heated exchange with Patriots team president Jonathan Kraft, who co-chairs the NFL’s digital media committee.” Jones argued that teams should have the right to generate their own GIFs to use as shareable content on social media sites like Twitter. After debating fiercely, La Canfora reports Kraft left the room in frustration. This is something the NFL cracked down on recently, which led to some seriously funny responses by teams trolling the league ( watch here ). That the league wants to hoard all video content for itself isn’t shocking, based on everything we’ve seen from the NFL in recent years. If we weren’t used to seeing the league bullying its players and teams of late, it would seem strange is that this is happening. After all, the commissioner works for the owners, so it’s hard to understand why the two sides cannot agree to share the content. ...

Microsoft releases open source toolkit used to build human-level speech recognition

Source: arstechnica.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Enlarge (credit: Microsoft) Last week, Microsoft announced a speech recognition breakthrough: a transcription system that can match humans, with a word error rate of 5.9 percent for conversational speech. This new system is built on an open source toolkit that Microsoft already developed. A major new update to the toolkit, now called the Cognitive Toolkit, was released today in beta. Formerly called the Computational Network Toolkit (CNTK), the MIT-licensed, GitHub-hosted project gives researchers some of the building blocks, such as neural networks, to develop their own machine learning systems. These machine learning applications can run on both CPUs and GPUs, and the toolkit has support for compute clusters. This scalability has already made CNTK strongly competitive with other popular frameworks, including Google's TensorFlow. The Computational Network Toolkit was originally built for speech applications, but has since grown to accommodate other machine learning use cases. The Bing team uses it to make inferences about search terms. For example, a search for "how do you make an apple pie?" is a search for recipes, even though it doesn't include the word "recipe." The new version of the toolkit adds features, such as support for Python scripting, and new algorithms to further expand its reach to these more diverse applications. Microsoft: Project Scorpio is making ‘amazing progress’

Source: mspoweruser.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
At E3 earlier this year, Microsoft unveiled Project Scorpio — the next-gen Xbox console which will support 4K gaming and high fidelity virtual reality. Recently, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox at Microsoft tweeted that their progress with Scorpio is “amazing”. “We are feeling good about schedule”, Spencer added: @RBeckerath I'm in a day long review of where the team is on Scorpio right now, amazing progress and we are feeling good about schedule. — Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) October 24, 2016 This is quite exciting for Xbox fans who have been waiting for the Scorpio — but they’ll still have to wait about one year for the console to arrive as Micorsoft plans to launch the Scorpio in Holiday 2017. Here is a teaser for Project Scorpio: Project Scorpio is believed to be the most pwoerful console ever, but we don’t really not a lot about the console yet. Microsoft previously stated that Scorpio will not be a cheap device, and the technical specs of the console is yet to revealed as it is under development at the moment. When the Scorpio is officially launched, Microsoft will continue to support the Xbox One S as it will be part of the new Xbox One ecosystem. Therefore, any games that support the Xbox One S will run smoothly on Project Scorpio and most games for Project Scorpio should also run fine on the Xbox One S. However, as Project Scorpio will support 4K gaming, some games may not work on the Xbox One S which is quite reasonable. ...

Busch Gardens closes Congo River Rapids after 4 killed on similar ride in Australia

Source: wfla.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Busch Gardens closed the Congo River Rapids ride Tuesday after four people were killed on a similar ride in Australia. Two men and two women were killed after the river rapids ride malfunctioned at a popular theme park on Australia’s east coast, officials said. Tampa Busch Gardens officials confirmed to News Channel 8 they closed the Congo River ride after the Australia deaths. “Out of an abundance of caution we have made the decision to close our Congo River Rapids ride while we work with other park operators and ride manufacturers to understand what happened in Australia,” a Busch Gardens spokeswoman said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those involved in the tragic incident at the Dreamworld park. The safety of guests and team members continues to be Busch Gardens’ number one priority. All ride attractions are inspected daily by trained technicians to ensure they are operating properly and meet all safety guidelines set forth by state agencies and well as the ride manufacturers,” the spokeswoman added. In Australia, the Thunder River Rapids ride whisked people in circular rafts along a fast-moving, man-made river. A malfunction caused two people to be ejected from their raft, while two others were caught inside the ride, said Gavin Fuller, an officer with the Queensland Ambulance Service. He did not know whether the two victims who were caught in the ride were trapped under water, or caught up in ...

LGBT Group’s Ad Asks How Anyone Can Support Donald Trump

Source: time.com - Tuesday, October 25, 2016
The nation’s largest LGBT rights group on Tuesday began running stinging ads that ask voters who know a gay person how they can possibly vote for Donald Trump. The digital ads , produced by the Human Rights Campaign and featuring a mother who lost her son in the June massacre at a gay dance club in Orlando, are part of the ongoing campaign to elect Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton to the White House. The group has invested heavily to mobilize at least 10 million LGBT voters, and its digital efforts are targeting specific voters. “If you love a gay person, if you know someone who is gay and you truly, really love them, I don’t know how you could justify a vote for Donald Trump,” says Christine Leinonen, whose son Christopher “Drew” Leinonen was among the 49 victims killed at Pulse nightclub. Leinonen also spoke at the Democratic National Convention. “Think about Christopher,” Leinonen continues in one version of the ad. “He lost his right to vote. You still have the right to vote. Vote for the future that you would want Christopher to have. He’ll be happy you gave him his vote for Hillary Clinton. I would be happy that you gave Christopher a voice.” The emotional appeal comes as Clinton appears to be pulling ahead of Trump in public polling and is flexing her campaign’s political muscle to turn out supporters to cast ballots early. Trump’s allies, however, are hardly conceding, and Trump himself has suggested he may cast doubt o

Why Sayta Nadella thinks cars are the 'best thing that has happened' to Microsoft (MSFT)

Source: uk.businessinsider.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Self-driving cars are going to be here sooner (Tesla and Uber) or later (Apple), but you don't hear much about a Microsoft car. And there's a good reason for that. Microsoft has no plans to build one, CEO Satya Nadella told attendees at the WSJ D Live conference Monday night. Many of the big automakers are Microsoft customers who are using Microsoft's cloud, Azure, to host connected car apps. So when the Wall Street Journal's Editor-in-Chief Gerard Baker asked Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella if Microsoft had any plans to build its own car, a la Google, Apple, he said, "I'm very thrilled about the car companies using Azure today. It's the best thing that has happened to us, quite honestly" Nadella said. He mentioned that Daimler, BMW, Ford, Toyota are "significant customers of ours" and they are interested in using Microsoft's premium (aka more costly) artificial intelligence services for their apps. Azure is also powering self-driving car apps for Renault-Nissan, Uber, others. "They are looking for a trusted partner that's not going to compete with them," he said. (Take that, Google.) Tim Cook Breaks Silence On Apple’s Interest in Cars … Without Actually Saying Anything.

Source: razorianfly.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
If there’s one aspect of the Jobs’ approach to Apple’s PR that Tim Cook appears to have adopted, it’s the ability to make a statement … while not saying much at all. Case and point — during the company’s fiscal Q4 earnings call , the Apple CEO was questioned by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster on the long rumoured Apple Car . A question to which Cook responded: “I can’t speak about rumors, but as you know, we look for ways we can improve the experience and the customer’s experience on different sets of products. We’re always looking at new things and the car space is an area where it’s clear there are a lot of technologies that will become available… or will be able to revolutionize the car experience. It’s interesting from that point of view. But certainly nothing to announce today.” Read: Apple is always looking into new things … the car experience could do with a revamp, and Apple isn’t going to do anything about it – right now. Apple CEO Tim Cook got testy after an analyst asked him if Apple has a 'grand strategy' (AAPL)

Source: uk.businessinsider.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Apple may have hit its targets in its fiscal fourth quarter, but investors are clearly not dazzled by the shrinking shipments across all of the company's key product lines . Shares of Apple fell about 3% in after hours trading on Tuesday. And CEO Tim Cook struggled to convince Wall Street that the company was poised for a new growth spurt. But the moment that best defined the company's current predicament came during the conference call on Tuesday, when Apple CEO Tim Cook fielded a remarkable question from an analyst and reacted in what can best be described as a defensive manner. The analyst started by pointing out that Apple hasn't released a major new product in a while, and then asked: "Does Apple have a grand strategy for the next 3-5 years? I know you're not going to tell us, but do you have one?" Cook responded by saying: " We have the strongest pipeline that we've ever had and we're really confident about the things in it but as usual we're not going to talk about what's in it " The "strongest pipeline" phrase was standard Apple boilerplate language for these kinds of questions. But it was hard to miss a sense of annoyance in Cook's voice, especially when he didn't follow-on with any other comments, if even just some more platitudes about how focused on innovation Apple is. Then something really interesting happened. The unthinkable question The analyst followed up by pressing on whether Apple has a grip on its strategy o ...

Samsung Pay gets a refreshed interface that transforms it into a digital wallet

Source: venturebeat.com --- Tuesday, October 25, 2016
When Samsung launched its mobile payment service last year , it entered a market where it went head-to-head with Apple and Google. The idea behind Samsung Pay was simple: to offer a secure and easy-to-use mobile payment service that lets consumers make purchases practically anywhere physical cards are accepted. But just how different is it from Apple Pay and Android Pay, two competing services created by the respective operating system manufacturers? On Tuesday, the company announced the rollout of not only a new user interface and experience, but in-app support for a select set of ecommerce companies. “If consumers always have to guess whether a store accepts a mobile payment it creates a mental friction. I believe in creating a basic technology that removes that friction,” Samsung’s executive vice president Injong Rhee once remarked. It’s that type of thinking that has caused the electronics manufacturer to roll out a new user experience for Samsung Pay later this year. It shifts the focus of the service away from being just about payments to becoming a true digital version of the wallet you carry around. To give consumers a reason to switch from Android Pay or Apple Pay, Samsung is implementing its so-called “payment+” strategy, which touts additional benefits to using Samsung Pay beyond as a payment mechanism. Starting in November, the service has been transformed into something that’s the equivalent of Apple’s Passbook, wher ...

Baseball America's top 10 Orioles prospects: Chance Sisco is No. 1

Source: www.masnsports.com --- Monday, October 24, 2016
After he was drafted in the first round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, right-hander Dylan Bundy became the Orioles' No. 1 ranked prospect at the end of that season. And Bundy stayed as the club's top-ranked prospect every year after, even as he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013. But with Bundy no longer eligible for prospects lists, there is a new Orioles No. 1. Catcher Chance Sisco's steady move up the rankings has led him to the top spot. When Baseball America released its latest O's top 10 prospects rankings today, Sisco headed up the list. He was ranked No. 10 after 2013 and then No. 4 and No. 3. Some players with major league experience are still eligible for prospects list. A player is eligible if they are currently under contract to an organization and they have not exceeded the major league rookie minimums of 130 at-bats or 50 innings, and haven't made more than 30 relief appearances in the big leagues. Under these rules, a few pitchers that were eligible this time last year are no longer eligible - that list includes Bundy, Mychal Givens , Tyler Wilson and Mike Wright . Some with major league experience that are still eligible include Donnie Hart , Trey Mancini and Oliver Drake . A look at the Baseball America's top 10 Orioles prospects: 1) Chance Sisco, C: As his defense took solid strides forward this year, the 21-year-old Sisco continued to hit for average and his power took a small step forward as well. Source: sneakernews.com --- Monday, October 24, 2016
Kevin Durant made an appearance at JamTown this weekend, surprising hundreds of young athletes this past Saturday by showing his support for their ongoing Basketball endeavors. KD was rewarded with a special one-of-one adult pair of the Nike KD 9 Fire And Ice, an upcoming grade school exclusive colorway that features contrasting red and blue mismatched Flyknit inspired by a young KD’s practice regiment throughout winter. When a young Durant would train outside during the coldest months of the year, his hands would freeze and then burn like fire when he washed them with water. That’s represented through an icy-blue right Nike KD 9 shoe and a fire-inspired left, each displaying the KD 9’s premium Flyknit construction and Zoom Air for extra cushion throughout. The Nike KD 9 Fire And Ice grade school exclusive will release on November 11th at select spots. Nike Basketball has been killing it with their ongoing Nike Kobe 11 Elite 4KB release slate, as premium themed Kobes have been taking on different thematic elements to shed light on the Black Mamba’s historic career. Now a volt-like colorway known as the Nike Kobe 11 Liquid Lime is headed to retailers in the near future featuring mini-Swoosh branding, a skeleton-inspired heel, and unique insole logos. The Nike Kobe 11 Liquid Lime utilizes that signature Volt shade throughout while the normal Swoosh side panel branding is hidden to show off a contrasting mini-Swoosh in Dark Obsidian. It’s a unique look – one that we’ve yet to see on the Kobe series, and it definitely adds an original twist. The tongue branding even exudes a certain glow-in-the-dark aesthetic for added attention to detail while 3M reflective striping lands on the laces. The Orioles rotation was horrible and they’ll all be back next year

Source: www.camdenchat.com --- Monday, October 24, 2016
The Orioles starting pitchers were collectively one of the worst units in Baseball. They’re all under contract for 2017. The bad news about the Orioles starting rotation this year is that it was among the worst in Baseball with a collective 4.72 ERA. Worse news is that every single one of the starting pitchers who contributed to that number could be back next year. Any way that you want to break it out, the numbers are ugly and the prospect for next season looks grim. For instance, of the eight starters who started at least ten games for the team, five of them had an ERA over 5.00. That accounts for 84 starts made this year, a bit more than half of the season started by pitchers who were seldom competitive. Not surprisingly for a team whose starters struggled so much, the Orioles rotation also threw among the fewest innings of all American League staffs. Their 886 innings pitched ranked 12th of 15 AL teams. They would have needed to throw 30-35 more innings to be merely average. Those extra innings were chewed up by pitchers like Odrisamer Despaigne and T.J. McFarland, who were even worse than the starters. Worse still is that of those 5+ ERA pitchers, three of them are on the payroll for a combined $33 million for next season. There won’t be many good starting pitching options in free agency this offseason, and even if there were, the Orioles would likely not be able to afford them due to carrying dead weight. That’s the b ...

Blockchain gets its first test with international trade

Source: www.engadget.com --- Monday, October 24, 2016
Some financial gurus are convinced that blockchain (the underlying tech behind bitcoin) is the future of business , and they might already have some proof. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Wells Fargo have conducted the first international, inter-bank trade deal to use blockchain for the transaction. It was a relatively modest experiment that shipped $35,000 in cotton from Texas to China, but it demonstrated the advantages of taking humans out of the equation. The deal included smart contracts that automatically sent payments and transferred ownership as the cargo reached certain locations. The companies involved didn't have to waste time sending documents, processing money or worrying about potential fraud. Don't expect blockchain to be a mainstay of trade in the near future. Wells Fargo tells the Sydney Morning Herald that there are "significant regulatory, legal and other concerns" that have to be resolved before it's used on a regular basis. However, the advantages make it hard to ignore. Existing shipping processes can take days, especially for cross-continent trips where time zones are a major factor. Blockchain reduces the transaction time to minutes -- cargo could arrive much sooner, which means less time waiting for the products you want to buy. Could Electric Vehicle Owners Prevent a Future Donald Trump?

Source: http://ift.tt/hFWySe --- Monday, October 24, 2016
Photo: Tesla Owners Club of Australia The lack of a single question on climate change after four consecutive presidential debates is a painful reminder of how little political power climate hawks have really built. But while climate change is not a salient political issue clean energy is. According to polling conducted by Pew clean energy is a potential wedge issue with right leaning constituencies. That's because in places like California Republicans are 5 times more likely to own rooftop solar than their crunchy liberal friends. That's an important political opportunity in an increasingly polarized world. But more exciting than the ability to transcend the political divide is the opportunity to organize a politically potent constituency. With more than one million solar homeowners with 'skin in the game' when it comes to the clean energy transition we have the potential for something the left has never been able to build - the clean energy equivalent of the National Rifle Association (NRA). Take what happened with threats to rooftop solar in California for instance. When the California PUC considered changes to the net energy metering (NEM) policy that enables participation in the clean energy economy Solar City was quick to take action. The company sent email action alerts, much like an advocacy focused NGO might, to its customers asking them to tell the PUC to keep its hands off their solar. That simple act turned passive cons ...

Source: thegaragehighbury.com --- Monday, October 24, 2016
Matt Andersen has been enthralling audiences with his one-of-a-kind performance in North America, Europe and Australia for years. Earlier this fall, the award-winning artist once again decamped from his New Brunswick home – this time to record his upcoming album. Produced in New York with Commissioner Gordon (Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, KRSOne), Honest Man follows up the JUNO Award nominated ‘Weightless’ and sees the songwriter pushing himself into new territory. Blessed with a rich gospel soul voice and armed with a new set of songs, Matt Andersen found a perfect partner in crime with Commissioner Gordon. “Gordon has worked with so many different people, like Santana and Quincy Jones, on so many historic albums,” says Andersen. “He has such a great approach and was able to tie-in so many new ideas to what I’ve done in the past without losing touch with my sound.” From writing around drum beats to bringing in a cast of players including Andy Bassford (Toots and the Maytals, Burning Spear, Natalie Merchant), Benji Bouton (Ibibio Sound Machine), Josh David Barret (The Wailers, Lauryn Hill), and Lenny Underwood (Mary J. Blige, Amy Winehouse), Honest Man expands on what we already know and love from Andersen and brings it to a new level. “Gordon brought a drum beat to one of our first sessions that I loved, and I wrote ‘Let’s Get Back’ around it. Huntsman Spider Eating Mouse Is Reason Enough Never To Go To Australia

Source: http://ift.tt/zP5LE8 --- Monday, October 24, 2016
Nope. Nope, and three times nope. This eight-legged monster has been filmed in Australia trying to devour a fully-grown mouse as it scuttles across a fridge. The footage was taken by Jason Womal who said: “So I am just about to leave for work about 00:30 and me neighbour says ‘you want to see something cool’ and I say ‘Hell yeah’. So we proceed to his place and he shows me this. Huntsman trying to eat a mouse.” And for effect he also posted these pictures.   Fortunately, although aesthetically horrifying, this particular spider, the huntsman, is generally not a threat to a healthy human being and will only attack if you bother a nest full of eggs. So don’t do that. In fact, in Australia they are often welcome houseguests as they are very adept at keeping the bug population down. And this story has a happy ending - he’s still fine and has even been given a name. "Ok guys so just letting you all know that the spider is fine. We have named him Hermie, we have adopted him and he is now running his own extermination business out of our town Coppabella. Oh and he is now paying rent. Lol" -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. It may be used for personal consumption, but may not be distributed on a website. ...

COPPABELLA, Australia – Do NOT scroll down if you are afraid of spiders. You have been warned. The huntsman spider is a rather large spider found in Australia. This one happens to be dragging a dead mouse up the side of a refrigerator so he can enjoy his meal in peace. Jason Womal posted the video from his neighbor’s kitchen to Facebook on Saturday, and it has been viewed over nine million times. Womal wrote in the post: “So I am just about to leave for work about 12:30 and me neighbour says ‘You want to see something cool’ and I say ‘hell yeah’,” Mr. Womal wrote on the post. “We have adopted him and he is now running his own extermination business out of our town Coppabella,” he said. Celebrate “Holoween” at the Interactive Commons

Source: thedaily.case.edu --- Monday, October 24, 2016
Over the past 18 months, Case Western Reserve has used Microsoft HoloLens devices for anatomy and art history, music and sustainability . Now it’s time to apply them to pure fun. The university’s Interactive Commons (IC), home to academic innovation in visualization, is offering undergraduate, graduate and professional students a free holographic “haunted house” from 4 to 6 p.m. this Thursday and Friday—and on Halloween. Those interested in trying on the HoloLens headsets to see three-dimensional images—along with everything else actually in the room—can sign up online starting today. Registrants should be prepared to indicate which day(s) they can attend: Oct. 27, 28, and/or the 31. Those selected will receive an email with their time slots and dates; each session lasts about 10 minutes. Case Western Reserve and Cleveland Clinic began partnering with Microsoft early in 2015, as the company prepared to launch what it calls the world’s first untethered holographic computer. The university and hospital are partnering on a 485,000-square-foot Health Education Campus now under construction, and saw the HoloLens as an opportunity to provide its students truly cutting-edge educational experiences. This spring the two institutions launched the first third-party HoloLens app on Microsoft’s online store; last month that app won in the immersive virtual reality and augmented reality category in the 2016 Jackson Hole Science Media Awards co ...
