Small Businesses Must Focus On Customer Experience

If you're a small business with a moderate to bad Yelp review you should take the time to walk through your customer experience. Just because you're a small business doesn't mean you aren't held to high standards of quality. Take a minute to consider my thoughts on why small businesses must take customer experience just as seriously as big businesses.

Philippine President-Elect To Ease Off Profanity After Taking Office

Philippine President-elect Rodrigo Duterte used the F-word in a speech earlier this month when telling journalists what not do with him. The mix of profanity with threats was classic Duterte. ‘Rage Rooms’ And ‘Anger Rooms’ Let You Break S*** Up! [Video]

Source: www.inquisitr.com --- Tuesday, June 28, 2016
Those who’ve seen anger rooms and rage rooms being used as a form of therapy on reality TV shows now have their own anger rooms where they can rage all they want with Baseball bats and crowbars. As seen in the below video, certain anger and rage rooms are popping up around the country that allow folks to pay specific amounts to break stuff up. Many of the rage rooms provide protection to try and protect the person’s eyes, head, and their entire body as they rage on and break stuff. Certain anger rooms tell their patrons to wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes as further protection. According to WKYC , rage rooms are all the rage, yes — and anger over politics or other frustrations could be fueling the rage rooms. One particular rage room called Tantrums in Houston lets folks smash up TVs, washing machines and more. The tagline of the rage room is “Relaxation After Devastation.” People can pay $50 for 15 minutes to wreak as much havoc as they want upon many breakable things in the room. Even though breaking old and unwanted things with sledgehammers or Baseball bats is often seen as a form of releasing anger in a so-called “safe” way in therapeutic sessions on reality TV shows, some psychologists claim that the anger rooms could build rage in certain folks. Instead of offering a cathartic way to break things without harming anyone, the worries are that the rage rooms could fuel anger once the person goes home. Howev ...

Dozens Dead in Suicide Bombings at Istanbul Airport in Turkey

Source: nymag.com - Tuesday, June 28, 2016
Explosions  rocked Turkey's busy Ataturk Airport in Istanbul Tuesday evening. The blasts' death toll keeps rising: First, officials put the number at 10, then increased that to  at least 28 . Now the Associated Press  is reporting  that around 50 people may have been killed. At least 60 more are believed hurt, including some police officers.  Early reports suggest at least two attackers in suicide vests blew themselves up around 10 p.m. local time — though now sources are saying at least three suspects may have been involved. One of the attackers apparently detonated a bomb outside of the airport terminal in the parking lot;  another set off his explosive vest near the security entrance for international arrivals. One of the assailants  reportedly  opened fire with a Kalashnikov before killing himself, and police may have exchanged gunfire with the attackers before they detonated the bombs,  reports the Telegraph .  Here is the alleged moment of one of the blasts as recorded on closed-circuit TV inside the airport, posted on social media: Emergency responders and ambulances rushed to the airpo rt, ferrying the injured to hospitals. Pictures from news agencies and social media documented the bloody scene, with wounded people lying on the ground, with yellow police tape cordoning off the area. Others captured the chaotic, panicked aftermath of the explosions.  (Warning: Some of the images are graphic.) Turkey has been shaken recent

The State Dept. Issued Travel Warning Just Yesterday About Increased Terror Threat in Turkey

Source: www.mediaite.com - Tuesday, June 28, 2016
The horrible terror attack in Istanbul, Turkey today came exactly one day after the State Department issued a travel warning to U.S. citizens about the increased terror threat from Turkey. The warning yesterday said, “The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern Turkey.” The terrorists (possibly linked to ISIS but unconfirmed yet) targeted the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, and the State Department warned U.S. citizens yesterday about terrorists targeting “public venues where people congregate,” including “aviation services.” They issued these safety advisements: Avoid travel to southeastern Turkey, particularly near the Syrian border. Stay away from large crowds, including at popular tourist destinations. Exercise heightened vigilance and caution when visiting public access areas, especially those heavily frequented by tourists. Stay away from political gatherings and rallies. Follow the instructions of local authorities in an emergency. Stay at hotels with identifiable security measures in place. Monitor local media. As of tonight, dozens are dead and hundreds more have been injured due to the attack. You can read the full State warning here . Seahawks reportedly ink Doug Baldwin to 4-year extension

Source: www.sbnation.com --- Tuesday, June 28, 2016
Baldwin set career highs in every major receiving category last season, and was tied for the NFL lead in touchdowns with 14. Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin has signed a four-year contract extension with the team,  according to Adam Schefter of ESPN . Baldwin's deal will keep him under contract through 2020 and is worth $46 million,  including $24 million guaranteed, according to Adam Caplan . Baldwin, 27, is entering his sixth season in the league, and is coming off his first 1,000-yard receiving season last year. Undrafted in 2011, Baldwin exceeded 700 yards in three of his other four seasons, but finally hit the 1,000-yard mark when he became a consistent game-changing receiver for quarterback Russell Wilson. Career highs in catches (78), yards (1,069) and touchdowns (14) were the highlights of last season. He played in all 16 games and was tied for the NFL lead in touchdown receptions. Baldwin was entering the final year of his contract this season, but with big contracts awarded to Allen Hurns of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Keenan Allen of the San Diego Chargers, there was enough information out there for the Seahawks and Baldwin to come to terms on his value going forward. Seattle has had contract issues in recent years, from a long standstill with Wilson before giving him his big deal to safety Kam Chancellor holding out for two games — both losses — last season. But Seattle has done a great job of keeping the ...

Witness says airport bomber first shot people at random

Source: theweek.com - Tuesday, June 28, 2016
A man who survived the coordinated attack Tuesday at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport said he saw one of the suicide bombers shoot people indiscriminately before he blew himself up. Paul Roos, 77, told Reuters he was getting ready to board a plane back to his home in Cape Town, South Africa, when he saw the attacker "randomly" open fire as he walked through the terminal. "He was just firing at anyone coming in front of him," he said. "He was wearing all black. His face was not masked. I was 50 meters away from him." Roos said he ducked behind a counter with his wife, but soon stood up to see what was going on. "Two explosions went off shortly after one another," he said. "By that time he had stopped shooting. He turned around and started coming towards us. He was holding his gun inside his jacket. He looked around anxiously to see if anyone was going to stop him and then went down the escalator…We heard some more gunfire and then another explosion, and then it was over."

(Photo by Matt Sayles/Invision/AP). Jamie Foxx speaks at the BET Awards at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday, June 26, 2016, in Los Angeles. Laila Ali paid tribute to her late father, sports icon Muhammad Ali, during the BET Awards on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Ali, a retired boxer herself, started to choke up as she spoke about her father’s legacy and the outpouring of support since his death at the age of 74 on June 3 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. “My father, Muhammad Ali, lived his life with conviction and purpose,” Ali said. “He is known as the greatest athlete of all time, a man who fearlessly faced opposition both in and outside the ring.” Actor Jamie Foxx, who starred in the 2001 biopic about the icon’s life, “Ali,” as Ali’s cornerman Drew Bundini Brown, also spoke about the legend, noting that he stood up when no one else was doing so. After getting a standing ovation, Ali stood in front of a photo of her father holding her as an infant and talked about her father’s evolution in his heart, mind and spirit over the course of his lifetime. “These past few weeks my father’s generosity and love has been matched by a worldwide outpouring of love and reverence for him and our entire family,” Ali said. “If he was here today, he would humbly ask you to pray not just for our family, but for all of mankind.” Copyright 2016 The Associated Press. The Case for Pitchers in the Home Run Derby

Source: http://ift.tt/1kZRmwU --- Monday, June 27, 2016
The All-Star games in all of the four major sports leagues (NHL, MLB, NFL, NBA) are starting to become irrelevant. If you’re a player, it’s an honor to be named to an All-Star team, but some would prefer to take a few days off rather than play one more game. From the fan’s point of view, the games are largely non-competitive affairs played at half speed. Luckily, major sports leagues have picked up on this and have implemented different contests to keep things interesting, that happens prior to the game itself. They show off the pure skill of the athletes involved. For instance in the NBA, there’s the Dunk Contest as well as a three-point contest and many other skill-based spectacles. In the NHL, there’s the skills competition. And in MLB, there’s the Home Run Derby. The Home Run Derby is interesting to watch, but it is not anything new. If one really wanted to watch a home run derby, they’d buy a ticket to a regular season game involving the Baltimore Orioles and get there early to watch batting practice. Josh Hamilton had a memorable home run derby performance in 2008 (July 14, 2008 – Source: Nick Laham/Getty Images North America) Problem solved. As interesting as the Home Run Derby is, it can get boring; There’s nothing memorable to them anymore. They occur every year and the game’s sluggers go up and tee-off on batting practice-speed pitches. The Home Run Derby is also really slow. Luckily, MLB picked up on this last year and ...

How did Death Collective start? I’m a pretty chill guy, so the first question people usually ask is “What’s up with the dark name? The answer to that question dates back to November 2011, and it’s the reason why Death Collective exists. I was woken up in the early hours of the morning to the news that my friend Dane Searls — known for changing BMX forever after jumping the world’s biggest dirt jumps — had been in accident and was in intensive care. For the next few days I was alongside Dane’s family and closest friends (some I hadn’t seen for years) as we waited and hoped for some good news. On Nov. 25, we were told that his life support would be switched off. Dane died at 4:19 a.m. that morning. Two months later, I received another phone call. Know Your O’s: Brad Brach on the Padres, his wife’s music career, Springsteen and pizza

Source: http://ift.tt/28Xx5ae --- Monday, June 27, 2016
In his three seasons in Baltimore, Brad Brach has not only become a key member of the Orioles’ bullpen, he’s become one of the best relievers in Baseball. Through his first 34 games this season, he allowed just five earned runs (1.05 ERA). As an Oriole, the 6-foot-6, 30-year-old right-hander is 17-5 with a 2.49 ERA in various bullpen roles. His under-the-radar acquisition in November 2013 – the San Diego Padres traded him to the Orioles for minor leaguer Devin Jones, who is out of pro Baseball – is one of the best moves of the Dan Duquette Era. In this segment of “Know Your O’s,” Brach talks about his return to Petco Park this week for the first time since being traded by the Padres. Brach was born and raised in Freehold, New Jersey. So it’s inevitable that we also would discuss pizza and Bruce Springsteen, Freehold’s most famous son. The music discussion doesn’t end there, though. Brach and I talk about his favorite performer, pop-country singer/songwriter Jenae Cherry, Brach’s wife. The reliever tells the story about when he first met her in Nashville – it’s pretty funny, knowing his personality – and the song she wrote for him on their wedding day. Brach reveals a little bit about his own musical career; he’s a recorded artist of sorts. Take a look. Skepticism about the White Sox process

Source: southside.locals.baseballprospectus.com --- Monday, June 27, 2016
One of the things you hear all the time in Baseball analysis, especially from people who think of themselves as “data-driven” or “analytical,” is that the appropriate way to judge people and decisions is on the process, not the results. Smart moves don’t always pay off, and bad ones turn out just fine sometimes, so the outcome of a choice isn’t the most important aspect of assessing a decision (if it should be considered at all). What goes less often discussed is that assessing process is much easier said than done. We don’t know how the sausage gets made—what the scouts said, what the analysts suggested, if the owner thought it was worth his money. (In Baseball, unfortunately, it’s always his money, but that’s an article for another day.) We in the public sphere judge transactions based on the eye test, some reports from aspiring scouts, and incomplete public analytics like PECOTA. A major league organization has numerous people with substantial expertise working full-time in each of these areas, so it would be foolish to think they have the same approach or rely on the same information as even the most knowledgeable fan. Puzzling out why a decision was made is even harder in the case of the White Sox, as the precise division of responsibility between Executive Vice President Kenny Williams and GM Rick Hahn remains unclear nearly four years after they assumed their current positions. Of course, if you don’t know what information ...

Evaluation of Chlamydia Partner Notification Practices and Use of the “Let Them Know” Website by Family Planning Clinicians in Australia: Cross-Sectional Study

Source: www.jmir.org --- Monday, June 27, 2016
Background: Chlamydia, caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, is the most common reportable infection in many developed countries. Testing, treatment, and partner notification (PN) are key strategies for chlamydia control. In 2008 the Let Them Know (LTK) PN website was established, which provided means for people to send anonymous PN messages by text messaging (short message service, SMS), email, or letter. Objective: We evaluated PN practices among Australian family planning clinicians following chlamydia diagnosis and assessed how often clinicians refer their patients to the LTK website. Methods: A mixed methods approach included a Web-based cross-sectional survey of Australian family planning clinicians to examine PN attitudes and practices and focus groups to explore the context of LTK website use. Results: Between May 2012 and June 2012, all clinicians from 29 different family planning services (n=212) were invited to complete the survey, and 164 participated (response rate=77.4%); of the clinicians, 96.3% (158/164) were females, 56.1% (92/164) nurses, and 43.9% (72/164) doctors. More than half (62.2%, 92/148) agreed that PN was primarily the client's responsibility; however, 93.2% (138/148) agreed it was the clinician's responsibility to support the client in informing their partners by providing information or access to resources. This month we're having an NCAA style tournament to determine Nova Nation's favorite Villanova Basketball player of all time.  Be sure to check back each day as voting continues! Wright Region | Massimino Region | Lappas Region | Severance/Kraft Region Just as I predicted way back when we released the regions, the Arizin vs. Porter match-up was the toughest to pick out of all the Elite Eight showdowns.  Unlike what I predicted, Arizin would be the only 1 Seed not to advance to the Final Four.  We kick off our final week of the tournament by pitting Jay Wright Region's Ryan Arcidiacono (80%) against the Severance/Kraft Region's Howard Porter (51%).  On the other side of the bracket, Massimino Region's Ed Pinckney (89%) will take on the Lappas Region's Kerry Kittles (96%).  To the breakdowns! Final Four Match-up: 1) Ryan Arcidiacono vs. 2) Howard Porter Both of these players took their teams to an NCAA Championship in their final season with Villanova, but they couldn't be more different.  Arch is a small guard whose strength comes from facilitating the rest of the team.  While he can score when needed, especially in clutch time, he does all the little things that make his teammates better.  Porter was a big forward that was by far the best player on the team, if not the court.  His skill set demanded so much attention from the opposit ...

Baltimore rapper Lor Scoota killed after leaving charity basketball game

Source: fox43.com --- Monday, June 27, 2016
A Baltimore rapper named Tyriece Travon Watson, who went by the stage name Lor Scoota, was fatally shot in broad daylight at a busy intersection in Friday, police said. He was 23 years old. Watson had just left a charity Basketball in Baltimore game calling for “peace in the streets” when he was killed. He was driving in his car when an unknown black male wearing a white bandana stepped into the street and opened fire, Baltimore police said. Watson was brought to a local hospital but died from his injuries. The shooter appeared to be targeting Watson, Baltimore police spokesman T.J. Smith said. But no motive has been identified, and police have not named any suspects. Police are examining video related to the shooting and are asking for anyone with any knowledge of the situation to come forward. “We are making some progress but not as much progress as we would like [in finding a suspect],” Smith said. ‘This revolving door of death’ In a public entreaty, Smith asked that Watson’s death be a wake-up call to those seeking retribution, especially gang members. “The eerie irony that should just absolutely tick all of us off, collectively, is that he was leaving a peace rally that was held at a local university,” Smith said. “This revolving door of death is something that’s despicable, and its leaving too many mothers to bury their children.” “We need this to be a rallying cry for those out there who want to seek retribution for lil Sc ...

Woman Wins $10,000 Lawsuit Against Microsoft Over Windows 10 Upgrades

Source: yro.slashdot.org --- Monday, June 27, 2016
An anonymous reader shares this story from the Seattle Times: A few days after Microsoft released Windows 10 to the public last year, Teri Goldstein's computer started trying to download and install the new operating system. The update, which she says she didn't authorize, failed. Instead, the computer she uses to run her Sausalito, California, travel-agency business slowed to a crawl. It would crash, she says, and be unusable for days at a time. "I had never heard of Windows 10," Goldstein said. "Nobody ever asked me if I wanted to update." When outreach to Microsoft's customer support didn't fix the issue, Goldstein took the software giant to court, seeking compensation for lost wages and the cost of a new computer. She won. Last month, Microsoft dropped an appeal and Goldstein collected a $10,000 judgment from the company. Microsoft denies any wrongdoing, and says they only halted their appeal to avoid the cost of further litigation. Read more of this story at Slashdot. ...

Monitor Process creation and termination on Windows

Source: www.ghacks.net --- Monday, June 27, 2016
Process Logger Service is a free program for Windows that installs itself as a service to monitor process creation on the computer it is installed on. Processes are launched when you start a program on a device running Windows, but also automatically by software, services or the operating system. While you may be able to identify some of the running processes easily, the programs you started for instance, you may miss the bulk of process creation and termination as it happens in the background. Programs like the Windows Task Manager or the more suitable Process Explorer help you get a better look at what is happening on the system, but they usually provide a snapshot only in regards to that. It is easy to miss processes that start and terminate automatically. Monitor Process creation and termination Process Logger Service has been designed to provide you with a process activity log. It is a bit difficult to install as it operates as a Windows Service, but once you are past that works automatically. Installation Download the program archive from the developer website and extract it afterwards. Copy the ProcessLoggerSvc directory to the root of the c: drive afterwards. Open the service directory and open config.ini in a plain text editor. You may change the default configuration of the service using it. Options include disabling the logging of process creations or terminations, disable the computing of MD5 hashes, or changing the d ...

The Cutest Backup Singers! Gwyneth Paltrow Films Apple and Moses Helping Out Dad Chris Martin on Stage at Glastonbury

Source: celebritybabies.people.com --- Monday, June 27, 2016
Ian Gavan/Getty Having a rock star for a dad does come with perks. When Chris Martin and Coldplay headlined Glastonbury Festival this weekend, the father of two enlisted the help of Apple , 12, and Moses , 10, to provide some back-up vocals to the massive crowd. The band paid tribute to British indie rock band Viola Beach after all four members – Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin – and their manager Craig Tarry plunged from a bridge and died in a tragic car accident in Sweden in February. “We’re going to create Viola Beach’s alternate future for them, and let them headline Glastonbury for a song,” Martin announced. Coldplay performed the band’s song “Boys That Sing” with footage of Viola Beach in the background while Apple, Moses and two of their cousins sang their hearts out. iOS 10 Won’t Collect Data If You Don’t Want It To

Source: www.eteknix.com --- Monday, June 27, 2016
These days the whole decision behind companies and software comes down to as simple a thing as their policies and in that regard Apple seems to be taking on Microsoft by creating an opt-in policy for iOS 10. The new technique, one which Apple is calling its “differential privacy” will collect information without going after your personal or sensitive information . The first thing to notice is that the policy will be opt-in, a stark contrast to systems being developed these days which automatically accept and send data to remote users, always seeking to find new ways of sending data without asking your permission directly. The second thing to note is that only four pieces of information will be collected. These includes any words you decided to add to your local directories, any emojis used, look up hints you place within notes and finally any deep links located within apps (they have to be marked for public indexing though). Any predictive parts of iOS 10 will remain on the device, with minimal transmissions back to Apple’s servers making sure that your devices data stays on your device. With more and more changes coming in iOS 10 this autumn, Apples contrasting policy on privacy and information could turn more users to its new devices in an age where the company sells the product as much as the technology its made out of. Samsung is one of the world's largest smartphone manufacturers, if we take into consideration the variety of products that it offers. Now, it seems that Samsung has filed a patent application in order to make some design changes on its upcoming handsets. There are some design elements that manage to set Samsung and Apple apart, especially when it comes to the home button. The front-facing button is the most visible element that can make a difference between a Samsung device and an iPhone , since the latter comes with round-shaped home buttons. Elections in Spain: Pollsters Underestimate Conservative Support

Source: www.inquisitr.com - Sunday, June 26, 2016
Surprising pollsters, Spain’s conservative Popular Party (PP), also called the People’s Party by some news agencies, won today’s general election in that country, but has still fallen short of a parliamentary majority. It remains to be seen if the PP victory can break the ongoing political deadlock in Spain, which is Europe’s fourth-largest economy. The center-right PP under Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy won 137 seats, up from 123 in the inconclusive December election, while the socialist PSOE finished in second place with 85 seats (down from 90). The PP needed 176 seats to control the 350-member parliament. “We have won the elections, we demand the right to govern,” Rajoy declared in a victory rally in Madrid tonight. Now Rajoy will be faced with the difficult task of forming a coalition government to once again avoid a hung parliament. “Spain’s electorate, angry about high unemployment and corruption, has expressed little appetite for a third round of voting. So most analysts are betting that a government will be formed, even though it could take painstaking negotiations and perhaps party leadership change,” the Wall Street Journal reported . Pollsters predicted that the PP would lose seats and that Rajoy would be out of job and that the new far-left, anti-austerity Unidos Podemos party would gain significant traction. In a disappointment to its supporters, Unidos Podemos wound up with the same number of seats, 71, as in Decembe

Meet George Hunter The First Footballer Of Indian Origin To Represent Manchester United

Source: www.indiatimes.com --- Monday, June 27, 2016
Manchester United is one of the most popular Football club in the world. In India they have a huge fan base and so when a connection with the country comes up it does mean something special. http://ift.tt/291zhAO Now suppose a player born in India played for United? Heart-stopping right? But it has happened, and that too over a hundred years ago. George Hunter was the first India-born player to play for the Red Devils He was born in Nowshehra, British India (in present-day Pakistan) and in his pre-Football career was a part of the Royal West Kent Regiment in Maidstone. Nicknamed 'Cocky', Hunter had a history of wild temperament and for being embroiled in a number of controversies. He was out of the military in 1907 on charges of theft, but he did return eventually. In between his footballing career took off. After a stint with Chelsea, he joined Manchester United. After making his debut against Aston Villa in 1914, Hunter would go on to become the captain for Manchester United after proving himself at the club and entering into the regular playing eleven. Reuters However, his wild ways and breach of regulations were a constant problem for the club as it also affected his professional life. Finally, United cancelled his contract in 1915 after yet another unsavoury training ground incident. It is interesting that he played for Chelsea and United. Rare giant hailstones damage cars, smash windows and roof tiles in the Netherlands

Source: www.sott.net --- Monday, June 27, 2016
Hailstones the size of tennis balls caused millions of euros worth of damage to cars and other property in the south of the country on Thursday evening. The giant hailstones hit the area east of Eindhoven running from Helmond to Venray and Venlo after the development of a supercell storm. 'It was like a war zone in Luyksgestel,' said one Twitter user. Such big hailstones are extremely rare in the Netherlands.
